Better alternative – Auto Bild Sportscars tests all-season tyres

Auto Bild Sportscars argues there is no alternative to “genuine summer tyres” for those wanting “to get the best possible performance out of a sports car on the asphalt,” at least in the warmer months of the year. But UK summers are a fleeting phenomenon, and tyres that deliver top performance in warm weather can struggle on winter roads. All-season tyres offer a practical alternative; the performance motoring publication has tested ten products in 225/45 R18.

Goodyear introduces Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6

The latest version of the Goodyear Eagle F1 ultra-high-performance tyre range arrives early in 2022. Goodyear will initially launch the Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6 in a range of 28 sizes during the first quarter of the year, including popular 17- and 18-inch fitments. It will then release additional dimensions throughout the year, and Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6 will be available in no fewer than 65 sizes for 17- to 22-inch rim diameters by 2023.

Free puncture repair for every Volvo driver

Want to avoid paying for a tyre repair? If you are a Volvo driver, it might be your lucky day. Volvo Car UK is offering a free repair service covering both windscreen and tyre damage. Volvo reports that the service is the first of its kind in the UK car industry to cover both tyres and windscreens. Where viable, Volvo retailers will the service on Volvo cars “of any age” and work will be carried out by “qualified Volvo technicians”.

Hankook launches 4th generation Ventus Prime

The latest incarnation of the Hankook Ventus Prime has arrived and takes over from a predecessor that has sold more than 20 million units since 2015, is original equipment on several cars and has collected a number of tyre test honours, including two wins in the renowned Auto Bild summer test. Hankook says the new Ventus Prime 4 offers generational improvements “in practically all relevant points,” including further optimised handling, rolling resistance and mileage.

Each of the 21 tyres participating in round two of the Auto Bild summer tyre test has already proven its ability to stop without fuss on wet and dry roads. Auto Bild's testers now turn their attention to separating the great from the good and just okay. The publication honoured three of the size 215/55 R17 tyres with its top rating of exemplary. It rated a further seven tyres good and ten satisfactory. The last-placed tyre gains just a conditional recommendation.

Michelin ranked ‘most valuable and strongest tyre brand’ 2022

Michelin has once again topped the tyre table within Brand Finance’s ranking of the world’s strongest and most valuable brands. This calculation doesn’t include everything but Michelin achieved a brand value of US$7.7 billion and a brand strength index score of 85.8 out of 100. And what’s more, the 2022 result saw Michelin extend its lead over second-placed Bridgestone.

But are they aware of the environmental and road safety risks of interfering with tyre pressures?
