World’s fastest Shed partners with First Stop

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s Kevin Nicks, Guinness world record holder and creator of the world’s fastest Shed, has partnered with First Stop. Amongst other things the partnership involves the placing a First Stop hoarding on the front of the Shed.

As you might imagined, this is no ordinary shed, it a has 4.2 V8 Audi RS4 Stage 2 engine, hydraulic suspension and a top speed of 113.7mph.

The Shed has been featured on both BBC and ITV news, The One Show, Have I Got News For You and is due to be aired on the new series of TopGear. The Shed will also feature at a number of events in 2020 including breaking even more world records and visiting First Stop centres up and down the country.

Snow is rare in most of Britain at the best of times. This year’s mild winter means it is even more difficult to imagine what it felt like for seven men and their three vehicles to face 5,000 kilometres of ice over a period of 20. Still that’s what Icelandic-American expedition team Expeditions7 went through recently when they drove from the southern coast of Greenland to the land’s northernmost spot and back. One of the team’s special vehicles built by Arctic Trucks was equipped with Nokian Hakkapeliitta 44 tyres. These are tailored what Nokian calls “real winter”. Now that’s an understatement. White-outs with zero visibility made it a unique challenge at times. On the slowest legs of the journey, the vehicles could only manage 10 kilometres per hour and the lowest recorded temperatures were -40 degrees Celsius!

World’s fastest tractor features GKN Wheels

Ever wondered what tractor tyres and wheels go fastest? Telford-based GKN Wheels and Structures was one of the key partners in JCB’s recent tractor speed record and the tyres were supplied by BKT. Now you know. But the details are impressive. Following two successful runs at Elvington Airfield in York, the JCB Fastrac broke the world record for a tractor, achieving a peak speed of an incredible 153.771mph and an average of 135.191mph – making it a tractor tyre and wheel speed record too!
