Better alternative – Auto Bild Sportscars tests all-season tyres
7 Nov 2025
Auto Bild Sportscars argues there is no alternative to “genuine summer tyres” for those wanting “to get the best possible performance out of a sports car on the asphalt,” at least in the warmer months of the year. But UK summers are a fleeting phenomenon, and tyres that deliver top performance in warm weather can struggle on winter roads. All-season tyres offer a practical alternative; the performance motoring publication has tested ten products in 225/45 R18.

Old minibus and bus tyres banned
17 Jul 2020
The Department for Transport (DfT) has decided to go ahead with legislation banning the fitment of tyres over 10 years of age to the front wheels of lorries, buses and coaches. The ban also extends to all wheels of minibuses unless they have a ‘twin axle’, which means they would have two wheels on each side at the rear. Reinventing the wheel: A brief history of tyres
9 Jun 2020
It all began about 5000 years ago. To get to the tyre, manufacturers first had to work with the wheel. Humanity didn’t see that until the Bronze Age, or roughly 3,000 BC. Next was the axle and wheel combination that is central to vehicular operations today. So it is not too much to say that the development of tyre technology really was a question of reinventing or better still reimagining the wheel. With this in mind, here's our brief history of tyres.
