Better alternative – Auto Bild Sportscars tests all-season tyres

Auto Bild Sportscars argues there is no alternative to “genuine summer tyres” for those wanting “to get the best possible performance out of a sports car on the asphalt,” at least in the warmer months of the year. But UK summers are a fleeting phenomenon, and tyres that deliver top performance in warm weather can struggle on winter roads. All-season tyres offer a practical alternative; the performance motoring publication has tested ten products in 225/45 R18.

Bridgestone & Yokohama tyres for Mazda’s first PHEV

Mazda is introducing its first plug-in hybrid, the “crafted in Japan” CX-60, and UK customers will receive their crossover with Bridgestone or Yokohama tyres as standard. Depending on specification, Mazda will equip the CX-60 with either Yokohama Advan V61 tyres in size 235/60R18 103V or the Bridgestone Alenza 001 in 235/50 R20 100W.

Fraudulent MOT tester gets eight-month suspended sentence

Anton Fricker of Taunton has received an eight-month suspended custodial sentence for issuing 31 MOT certificates without carrying out the tests. The case was heard at Taunton Crown Court and concluded on 26 August 2022. He was also banned from MOT testing for five years by DVSA.

Mercedes-Benz to make vehicles from old tyres

Discarded tyres will soon find a new home within the latest Mercedes-Benz models. Oil produced from end-of-life tyres through a process known as pyrolysis is being combined with biomethane to make plastics for vehicle components. Before the end of the year Mercedes-Benz EQE and S-Class models will roll off the production line fitted with door handles made from old tyres.
