You need money and expertise to perform a comparative tyre test. Magazines and motoring clubs therefore regularly collaborate with partners when testing. This is the case for German company car magazine Firmenauto, which bases its latest winter tyre test upon auto motor und sport’s recent evaluation. To give the test greater relevancy to its readers, Firmenauto added cost as a fifth test category.

Ride comfort is a known problem when fitting low profile tyres, but noise can be an issue too. Wide tyres can also contribute to excessive in-car noise. Some tyre makers combat this problem by fitting noise reducing materials within the tyre. But how effective are these solutions?

Another winter test, this time covering tyres for compact SUVs. Motoring magazine auto motor und sport (ams) has looked at 215/55 R17 tyres, a size worn by the likes of the Audi Q2, Fiat 500x, Hyundai Kona and VW T-Roc. Ams’ experts tested 11 tyre brands in wet, dry and snow conditions, as well as for rolling resistance and tyre/road noise performance.
