Continental is supplying the original tyres to the BMW’s latest 5 Series models, including the all-electric i5. The tyre manufacturer will supply the SportContact 7 for sporty driving, the energy efficient EcoContact 6 Q summer tyre, and the WinterContact TS 860 S winter tyre. The award-winning SportContact 7, WhatTyre’s 2023 Supersports Tyre of the Year and 2022 Tyre of the Year, offers incredible handling and short braking distances. It is also the winner of a wide variety of independent tyre tests conducted in Europe, demonstrating its ultra-high performance.

Bridgestone will return to a FIA World Championship for the first time in a decade-and-a-half when it begins delivering tyres to Formula E starting in the 2026/27 season. The company will succeed Hankook as the sole tyre supplier under an agreement that covers 2026-2027 through 2029-2030. The start of Bridgestone’s Formula E engagement will coincide with the introduction of Gen4 cars in the championship’s 13th season.

An estimated 6 million tyres on the road have illegal tread, according to TyreSafe’s recent Tread Depth survey, meaning many drivers risk three penalty points and a fine, which can be up to a maximum of £2,500, for each defective or illegal tyre. As well as the risks posed by illegal tread on tyres, almost 542,287 drivers are just two tyres away from an automatic driving ban and almost 100,000 who have nine points are just a single tyre away, according to a recent IAM RoadSmart report. These numbers have risen recently – the number of drivers with nine points on their licence has risen 8 per cent in the last year – indicating an urgent need for drivers to pay closer attention to road safety both in their driving behaviour and attention to vehicle maintenance.
