Kumho wins first-time OE tyre approval with Audi

We won’t see this vehicle/tyre combination in the UK, but it’s nevertheless a red-letter occurrence for Kumho. For the first time ever, Audi is equipping one of its models with Kumho tyres.

Audi began producing the second-generation Q5 in San José, Mexico at the end of 2016. The plant is now fitting vehicles destined for some markets with the Kumho Crugen Premium KL33. The Audi Q5 wears the Kumho tyre in size 235/55 R19 101H.

“We’re pleased that the Audi Q5 will roll off the production line on our tyres in future,” comments Insoo Kim, the senior vice president of Kumho Tire responsible for original equipment tyre sales. “For years we’ve supplied numerous premium manufacturers, and are now very proud to become an Audi original equipment partner for the first time.”

Insoo Kim says that wet and dry performance was a developmental priority. Kumho also focused upon Audi’s specific durability and noise requirements for this original equipment version of the Crugen Premium KL33.
