Auto motor und sport (ams) now uses the adjective ‘phenomenal’ to describe the tyres that impress its testers the most, and the first product to gain this new top rating is a recent release from Goodyear. During testing for its 2022 summer test, ams found the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6 to be a tyre that delivers a balanced spectrum of performance. The ams testers particularly praised its precise and easily controllable handling on dry roads. “Goodyear’s newcomer convinces with much safety and top dynamics,” states the German motoring publication.

The tyre size 185/65 R15 is a popular fitment for smaller cars and can be found on numerous models. European motoring associations ADAC, TCS and ÖAMTC have chosen 185/65 R15 as one of two dimensions evaluated in their summer 2022 tyre test. Their testers fitted 16 brands of tyre to a VW Polo and subjected these to braking and handling tests in wet and dry conditions as well as a range of comfort, environmental and economy-related evaluations. They found six products to be well-balanced performers.

The latest version of the Goodyear Eagle F1 ultra-high-performance tyre range arrives early in 2022. Goodyear will initially launch the Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6 in a range of 28 sizes during the first quarter of the year, including popular 17- and 18-inch fitments. It will then release additional dimensions throughout the year, and Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6 will be available in no fewer than 65 sizes for 17- to 22-inch rim diameters by 2023.

A Zeppelin is heading London way, but this isn’t the cause for concern it once was – the Zeppelin NT semi-rigid airship will peacefully float over the capital on 29 and 30 June resplendent in its Goodyear livery as part of a tour that will also take in towns in Kent such as Dover, Maidstone and Dartford.

More than a year after its counterpart for conventional saloons came to market, Goodyear is introducing the UltraGrip Performance+ SUV. This addition to the range covers the growing SUV and crossover market by offering consumers a “technology-packed winter tyre that increases the versatility and contributes to the safety of their vehicles.”

David Coulthard, himself a 13-time Grand Prix winner, has hit out at the current generation of Formula One tyres, which are supplied by Pirelli. Speaking in an interview with RaceFans.net, Coulthard said Pirelli-era tyres resulted in boring races: “This whole Pirelli era is just confusing to me and boring to me to have to talk about, and super-boring for me to have to listen to the drivers going ‘I was trying to avoid pushing too hard on the tyres’.”

Porsche has approved the Goodyear the Eagle F1 SuperSport R as original equipment for the latest Porsche 911 GT3. It will wear size 255/35ZR20 tyres on the front axle and 315/30ZR21 at the rear.

The performance stats of recently-launched electric cars highlight that electrification not only eliminates emissions, it also raises the bar in regards to sheer acceleration and instant performance. Electric saloons from manufacturers such as Audi and Porsche can hit 60 mph faster than many traditional supercars. For Goodyear, this brings exciting new challenges for tyre design and development.
