The BMW Group has selected Vredestein Ultrac tyres as original equipment for the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer. It will fit three sizes of Vredestein Ultrac: 205/65R16 95W, 205/60R17 97W XL and 225/50R18 99W XL. All factory-fitted tyres worn by the new BMW feature a star symbol on the sidewall to indicate that they are a bespoke product developed for this particular vehicle. The star-marked tyres will also be available for purchase as aftermarket fitments at BMW franchised dealers.
The bespoke versions of the Vredestein Ultrac worn by the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer have European tyre label ‘A’ ratings for both fuel economy and wet grip. The joint work carried out by the tyre and car makers builds upon a tyre that offers 15 per cent better dry and wet handling than its predecessor. This improvement comes courtesy of an enhanced tyre cavity with a squarer footprint, stiffer tread pattern, and centre rib with parabolic lateral grooves. These factors combine to enhance steering response and precision for a safe and dynamic driving experience. Additionally, the tyre’s five per cent generational improvement in rolling resistance boosts fuel efficiency and lowers CO2 emissions.
Compared to its predecessor, the Ultrac also features a 50 per cent increase in unique, traction-enhancing silica and resin compounds to achieve ten per cent better braking on dry and wet surfaces. Shock absorption and noise mitigation is enhanced by the reduced apex height, optimised sidewall construction and increased flex zone. In addition, the pitch sequence of the tyre has been optimised for different tyre diameters to increase acoustic comfort.
