Three years after first appearing as a concept at the Paris Motor Show, the VW ID.3 has entered production as Volkswagen’s first dedicated electric model. Buyers can choose from three battery sizes and two motors. A 45kWh battery gives the entry-level ID.3 a range of 205 miles and 148bhp. Drivers wanting more oomph can select 58kWh or 77kWh batteries paired with a 201bhp motor driving the rear wheels. These reportedly deliver 260 and 341 miles respectively. In order to minimise rolling resistance, VW has opted to fit the ID.3 with Continental EcoContact 6 tyres as original equipment.
The electric hatchback will be fitted with the EcoContact 6 in 18- and 19-inch sizes. Buyers selecting winter tyres will receive the WinterContact TS 850 P. The summer and winter tyres supplied for the ID.3 will feature ContiSeal puncture protection technology.
The tyres are not, incidentally, the only Continental products on the VW ID.3 components list – a Continental company is also producing the vehicle server that will keep the car connected.
