Good tyres are not cheap. And the days of getting a good set for a couple of hundred quid are in the past. With this type of investment, you need to know how to extend the life of them. Next time you buy, the tyre shop will probably tell you how long the tyres should last, but you might not experience that mileage figure unless you take some steps.

It goes without saying that tyres are critical to road safety, directly affecting each vehicle’s handling performance and efficiency. Choosing the right tyre will impact driving comfort, the car’s fuel efficiency and how fast it's able to go on the roads. However, with all the different brands, sizes, prices and compositions on the market, selecting tyres can often be a source of frustration and confusion.

Pirelli is supplying original equipment tyres for the Ford Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Edition, the fastest and most powerful version of the all-electric SUV. A technical collaboration between the vehicle manufacturer and tyre maker has resulted in a tailored version of the P Zero, which the Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Edition will wear in size 245/45R20 103Y XL. The tyre features the ‘Elect’ marking on the sidewall, which denotes Pirelli tyres dedicated to electric and hybrid vehicles.

The latest iteration of the Jaguar I-Pace is available with original equipment Continental tyres. Jaguar Land Rover is fitting versions of the all-electric SUV that ride on 22-inch rims with the Continental PremiumContact 6 in size 255/40 R22 103V XL. This original equipment tyre for the I-Pace features ContiSeal puncture protection, a technology that Continental says can prevent the adverse consequences of around 80 per cent of all common punctures.

Déjà vu aplenty in the 2021 Auto Express all-season tyre test. This year the publication returned to the 205/55R16 size it last looked at two years back, and the Hankook Kinergy 4S2 that participated in the 2019 test was back as a contender in 2021. Same tester, same tyre, same size. But this is where the similarities end; whereas the Hankook tyre finished seventh in 2019, this year it won.

The future belongs to all-season tyres, comments Auto Bild Allrad in the preamble to its 2021 test. It adds that these products have evolved into a true alternative to dedicated summer or winter tyres. This year, the German magazine for 4x4 and SUV enthusiasts evaluated ten brands of all-season tyre in size 215/65 R17. Top honours went to the Hankook Kinergy 4S2 X, a tyre that Auto Bild’s testers declared an “exemplary compromise” for safe driving in all weather conditions.
