An estimated 316,850 UK 18-year-olds have applied for higher education this year. Many will have cars of their own and all of them have to get there safely. However, three- in- five young drivers admit they never check their tyres. And around 6 million tyres with illegal tread are currently on UK roads, according to TyreSafe’s 2023 Tread Depth Survey.

Goodyear is adapting to the growing electrification of the automotive market by refining its tyre technologies to address the unique requirements of electric vehicles (EVs). The tyre manufacturer has ensured that its existing models, such as the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6, UltraGrip Performance 3, and Vector 4Seasons Gen-3, cater to both electric and internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles.

However, environmental conditions, which continue to change drastically, significantly affect tyre performance. Climatic conditions — with temperature differences and precipitation—and road features—from smooth highways to rough terrain—have much to do with how well the correct set of tyres works.

Over two years after its initial reveal, the Hankook Dynapro HPX, designed for SUVs and 4x4 vehicles, is now available in the UK and Europe. As of June 2024, Hankook Tire & Technology offers the Dynapro HPX in all standard tyre sizes ranging from 16 to 19 inches.

For its 2024 summer tyre test, Auto Express revisited the 225/45 R17 size, a popular dimension it hadn’t tested in three years. This year's assessment featured eight tyres, including new models from Michelin, Goodyear, Continental, and Bridgestone. The reigning champion in this size category, Hankook, returned to defend its title, competing against Falken, Pirelli, and Vredestein. Testing took place at Goodyear’s proving ground in Montpellier, France.

The new Mercedes-AMG GT Coupé comes equipped with Hankook Ventus S1 evo Z tyres as original fitment. These bespoke ultra-ultra-high-performance (UUHP) tyres feature a modified tread pattern and compound to ensure the 585 hp (430 kW) car achieves "maximum grip even in extreme driving conditions." This marks the first partnership between Mercedes-AMG and Hankook, with the tyre maker's M01 (Mercedes-AMG Original) symbol proudly displayed on the tyre's sidewall.
