Better alternative – Auto Bild Sportscars tests all-season tyres
7 Nov 2025
Auto Bild Sportscars argues there is no alternative to “genuine summer tyres” for those wanting “to get the best possible performance out of a sports car on the asphalt,” at least in the warmer months of the year. But UK summers are a fleeting phenomenon, and tyres that deliver top performance in warm weather can struggle on winter roads. All-season tyres offer a practical alternative; the performance motoring publication has tested ten products in 225/45 R18.

The AA and TyreSafe joint research shows driver knowledge of tyre safety is severely lacking

A joint study by The AA and TyreSafe, surveying over 22,000 UK drivers in May and July 2025, reveals a troubling lack of tyre safety awareness and poor maintenance habits. 61 per cent of respondents were unaware that driving on an illegal tyre could incur a fine of £2,500 per tyre, and 45 per cent did not know that each illegal tyre carries three penalty points: therefore, four illegal tyres could result in a driving ban. Only 65 per cent correctly identified the driver as legally responsible for tyre safety, while 34 per cent mistakenly believed it was the car owner.

An independent tyre dealer in Moray, Scotland triumphed over national chains to win the 2025 Tyre Industry Award for the Overall Tyre Retailer of the Year last week. GT Tyres (Forres) has been transformed in the four years since Joanne and David Philip took over in 2021 – improvements that were sufficient to wow the National Tyre Distributors Association’s judging panel. The Highlands retailer, a Michelin Quality Centre, described the award as totally unexpected, given the quality of contenders, which included some familiar names and large companies in the tyre sector. Director David Philip gave the credit to the whole team behind the centre: “This award is for the team and their hard work. They thoroughly deserve it.”
