Christmas might be the most wonderful time of the year for Andy Williams, but at WhatTyre.com we prefer the pre-summer tyre testing season. That’s why we are happy to see the first results for Auto Bild’s summer tyre test. Continuing the successful format of previous years, the well-known German motoring publication has again selected an enormous field of test candidates.

Davanti Tyres has launched the Davanti Ecoura, a new high performance tyre for compact and medium-sized cars. Available now in 14-16” sizes, the tyre enhances comfort, low noise and wet weather performance. The UK-owned brand is celebrating its tenth anniversary in 2025.

Chinese automotive firm XPeng has officially arrived in the UK, and the line-up it showed off during the launch event included the eVTOL X2. Billed as a flying car, this particular vehicle has – bad news for us – no wheels or tyres. To our considerable relief, the sole XPeng model presently on offer in the UK does come with these rubbery appendages, and it appears that XPeng favours a particular European tyre brand.

All good things must come to an end, but there’s nothing wrong with delaying the inevitable. Porsche has shared details of joint development work it conducted with Michelin on a tailored version of the Pilot Sport S 5, which results in “a perfect option for prolonging the track-day season.”

Korean tyre brand Nexen will supply its Nexen N’Fera Supreme S all-season tyre to the new Hyundai flagship SUV, the Palisade. The tyre is tuned for performance and comfort alongside mobility in all normal weather conditions. The new supply deal demonstrates the strides Nexen has made in its tyre technology and product quality, and illustrates its increasing competitiveness with other vaunted brands.

“We launched our first Cross Country car more than 25 years ago, and this concept of durable and all-weather cars is core to the Volvo brand,” said Volvo Cars’ CEO Jim Rowan, adding: “In Sweden we face harsh winters, but we also like to make the most of them by getting out and exploring our amazing nature, even when it’s minus 20 Celsius outside. That’s why we want to deliver a fully rounded experience, not simply a car, to our EX30 Cross Country customers.” For that you need high-performing tyres.
