Goodyear has launched the new Wrangler Duratec RT in Europe, continuing a global rollout that saw the tyre released in Australia earlier this year. The tyre is billed as the manufacturer’s premium 4×4 tyre, engineered for a 50/50 split between on and off-road applications. Launching the tyre in Europe, Goodyear tells the market the Wrangler Duratrac RT is offers a significant step forward in technology and performance compared to its predecessor, which was named the Wrangler Duratrac. Having made the tyre available in “many demanding global markets,” Goodyear adds that the tyre’s original run of European sizes will be joined by more in the fourth quarter of 2023, with dimensions for rim 15-19” rims, making a total of 15 sizes by the end of the year.

While the tyre is the latest in Goodyear’s long running 4×4 range, the Wrangler Duratec RT targets the needs of modern off-road drivers and the latest generation of off-road vehicles with a bold appearance, toughness, and comfortable handling. Goodyear says the Wrangler Duratrac RT provides great performance off-road, but also a quiet and smooth ride on-road.

The Wrangler name traces a heritage back to 1976. The RT suffix stands for rough terrain, signifying the tyre’s ability over rugged terrain. The very first Goodyear Wrangler tyre carried the RT marking. The range was introduced for fitment on specialised 4×4 vehicles and had been a symbol for off-road performance ever since.

Designed for the roughest terrain, Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac RT is made for adventure. The historic Wrangler name is synonymous with durability and performance. In Europe (in this case excluding Russia and Turkey), Goodyear research indicates the SUV segment is expected to grow 5.5 per cent year-on-year growth rate in the next five years. The segment is dominated by premium and value brands, which make up 96 per cent of the SUV summer off-road market.

Goodyear adds that customers increasingly require 4×4 tyres to deliver exceptional performance on and off-road. The IPSOS Goodyear Shopper Research 2021 survey found that 95 per cent of customers want products that are durable, followed by ride comfort and mileage.

Goodyear Wrangler Duratec RT features

The Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac RT offers increased control, grip and confidence with the manufacturer’s latest off-road technology. The tyre’s tread pattern is optimised with solid tread blocks and more biting edges for superior grip and traction in mud and other rugged conditions.

Goodyear’s Tri-Shield technology uses reinforced materials to boost reliability and penetration resistance. The three-ply structure adds significant strength and tear resistance compared to a traditional two-ply construction, ideal for navigating harsh terrain.

Goodyear has employed DuraEdge technology to provide the driver with grip even when traversing side slopes. The enhanced tread design extends over the sidewall, giving more protection against rocks and a more aggressive look to the tyre’s shoulder.

Goodyear’s Optimized Tread Pattern excels in rugged conditions while providing excellent all-round performance and comfort on the road.

Finally, the tyre employs built-in rim protection to provide a defensive barrier against scratches and wheel damage in rough terrain to help preserve the look of rims.

Laurent Colantonio, Goodyear senior director technology consumer tires EMEA, explains the new product: “Goodyear’s next generation off-road tyre is here, with a step forward in all areas, particularly performance, durability and aesthetics. Wrangler Duratrac RT is a product tailored to fulfil the demands of true off-road enthusiasts, with a growing consumer interest across the European market. The tyre’s exceptional performance in durability, traction and its ability to handle challenging terrain perfectly represents Goodyear’s spirit of exploration.”
