Continental is supplying tyres to Ford for the electric version of the latest Mustang. Ford has approved the PremiumContact 6 as an original equipment tyre for the Ford Mustang Mach-E, giving customers in Europe the option to receive their car in sizes 225/60/R18 104V XL or 225/55/R19 103V XL.
All tyres that Continental supplies for the Ford Mustang Mach-E have an EU tyre label rating of A for rolling resistance.
“Providers of sporty electric vehicles like the Ford Mustang Mach-E value good handling, steering precision and safety at high speeds. Furthermore, a particularly low rolling resistance increases the vehicle’s range,” says Andreas Schlenke, tyre developer at Continental. He adds that tyre design for electric cars doesn’t involve a one-size-fits-all approach: “There is not the one tyre for fully electric vehicles. Rather, we have been working for over a decade to further develop our existing portfolio in such a way that they meet the requirements of all electric vehicles and at the same time are able to sustainably reduce emissions of combustion vehicles.”
Improvements over previous-generation tyre
Continental gears the PremiumContact 6 towards comfortable saloons and sporty cars. “It combines comfort with precise steering response, safety and environmental characteristics,” comments the tyre maker. To achieve this, its engineers developed new compounds, a new tyre design as well as a tread that rolls comfortably. As a result, handling performance, rolling resistance, mileage, and comfort is increased by up to 15 per cent compared to the predecessor model.
