A further 54 size options have entered the Vredestein Ultrac Pro line-up, boosting the number of dimensions available in the UK to 60. Manufacturer Apollo Tyres has extended the ultra-ultra-high-performance (UUHP) summer tyre range further into 18- to 22-inch rim diameter territory, complementing existing options for rims up to 24-inches.
Launched last spring as a range that delivers “an unrivalled combination of performance and comfort,” Apollo Tyres notes that demand for the initial production run has been strong. With the development of new sizes, Vredestein Ultrac Pro is compatible with an even wider range of performance-focused vehicles.
Unique design, generational improvements
Apollo Tyres describes the tyre’s sidewall as a “unique asymmetrical” design, and we certainly agree about its uniqueness. Features that leap out include a digital display. At any rate, the tyre maker informs us that the creative sorts at Italdesign aimed for a look “inspired by the visual signature of chronometers and other quality timepieces.” The overall theme they wish to convey is “passing time” – a reference to the tyre’s focus on performance.
It’s not all quality timepieces and asymmetry though, as Apollo Tyres reports “significant differences in the layout of materials within the structure of the tyre” compared to both the previous generation of Vredestein UUHP tyres and established, rival products in this category. According to the tyre maker, this is particularly evident both the bead and the lower sidewall area close to the rim. It adds that the resulting design gives the tyre greater stability at high speeds and during aggressive cornering, while offering a smooth ride over rutted surfaces.
In addition, the Ultrac Pro’s tread incorporates a new-generation compound. Apollo Tyres shares that it produces this compound by a smart mixing process that uses state-of-the-art polymers, fillers and performance resins. These “guarantee wet and dry grip in a wide range of temperatures.”
Positive response
“There has been a very positive response to our flagship performance tyre following its introduction last year, and this move will ensure we are better able to meet fast-growing demand,” says Yves Pouliquen, Vice President, Commercial, Europe at Apollo Tyres Ltd. “The Ultrac Pro is already compatible with rims up to 24 inches, and we now cater for many of the most common size requirements across the UUHP category.”
