Mercedes, BMW choose Yokohama tyres

Two German car makers have chosen the Yokohama Advan Sport V107 as an original equipment tyre for new and existing performance models.

Mercedes-AMG is bringing its first electric vehicle to market. This is the Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+, and it will be available with the Advan Sport V107 as a factory fitment in size 275/35R22 104Y. The tyre features Mercedes-AMG’s ‘MO1’ mark of approval on the sidewall, indicating that it is an approved original equipment fitment.

Yokohama Rubber co-developed this OE tyre together with Mercedes-AMG. To achieve the low rolling resistance levels required for electric vehicles, the tyre maker has used a newly developed compound that reduces heat generation during normal driving more effectively than the tyres it previously supplied to Mercedes-AMG. In addition, the V107’s profile structure, crucial for uniform road contact pressure, together with a newly developed pattern arrangement, reduces acceleration passing noise in line with UN-ECE R51-03 requirements.

BMW X5M & X6M upgrade to V107

The Advan Sport V107 is also an original equipment tyre on the BMW X5 M and X6 M. BMW previously equipped these models with the Advan Sport V105 but will now deliver both fitted with Yokohama Rubber’s latest flagship performance model in size 275/40R21 107Y at the front and 315/35R21 111Y on the rear wheels.

Again, Yokohama Rubber co-developed these original equipment tyres with the vehicle manufacturer. In addition to maintaining the “optimal balance of high driving performance combined with superior comfort and safety characteristics” achieved with the prior V105, these original equipment Advan Sport V107 tyres also have the EU labelling system’s highest ‘A’ grade for wet grip. The BMW Group’s ‘star’ mark is present on the sidewall, denoting BMW’s approval of the tyre.

New Advan flagship

Yokohama will launch the Advan Sport V107 onto the replacement tyre market in spring 2022. The range, based on earlier developed OE tyres, will introduce more than 30 tyre sizes, ranging from 225/40ZR18 92Y XL to 305/35R23 111Y XL.
