Goodyear will make a leap forward in all-season tyre performance later this year. The premium tyre brand has claimed a first by achieving an A rating on the tyre label in addition to the Three-Peak Mountain Snowflake (3PMSF) marking, which indicates that the tyre is certified for driving in winter conditions, such as snow or ice.

If you’re researching tyres online, the chances are you’ve seen a lot of tyre labels. Introduced by the European Union in 2012, the tyre label is designed to help consumers by showing the tyre’s relative performance in three main categories: Fuel Consumption, Wet Grip, and Pass-by Noise.

The problem with the wet grip rating found on every tyre label is that it measures wet grip when the tyre is new – and tyres don’t remain new for very long. This will change in the next few years with the introduction of wet grip testing on worn tyres.
